Fall Staples You Can Thrift

Fall Staples You Can Thrift

If you're anything like me, when a new season rolls around, my favourite thing to do is go to the thrift store. I love scouting for new pieces to add to my wardrobe. When it comes to the fall season, besides our Threads tights, there are a few staples everyone needs in their closet. The best part is, these 5 staples are easy to thrift, which will save you money and help save the environment.

Year after year, it has become evident through multiple styles, colours and silhouettes, that a classic leather jacket never goes out of style. It's one of those trends that has essentially become timeless. My current favourite leather jacket I have for this fall is tan coloured and resembles the silhouette of a blazer. I love that it is a unique colour, but still neutral and goes with basically everything. My go-to outfit with this jacket is a plaid skirt, button down, my Threads tights and some knee high boots.

Some people may be skeptical about buying second-hand shoes, boots to be exact. For fall, one of my favourite ways to transition from summer style is wearing boots in replacement of open toe shoes. They go perfectly with tights and are usually higher-quality at a cheaper price than fast-fashion retailers. My favourite boots I have thrifted are a pair of black, square-toed, heeled, knee-high boots that are the most comfortable pair I have ever worn.

The most packed section at the thrift store when the colder weather rolls around is by far, the blazer section. Any colour, size, shape, silhouette imaginable, you will find at the thrift store, making it seem preposterous to even think about buying one new. Most of the blazers at the thrift store run at a fraction of the price for the quality they are worth. Blazers are the perfect transition layering piece for late summer nights, or the first few brisker days of fall. My favourite blazer I have thrifted is a black, oversized blazer, that literally goes with every outfit.

Trousers, dress pants, work pants, whatever you want to call them, are one of those pieces you know you can style 1000 different ways. In most thrift stores there is a separate trousers section full to the brim of different styles of dress pants. Even if you don't work a 9-5 office job, you may find yourself gravitating towards dress pants over jeans. They are more comfortable, make you look put together, and come in neutral colours you can style in countless ways. My favourite pair I have thrifted are a dark green colour with a flared leg that I love styling with my knee-high boots and a leather jacket.

The last staple people may forget to look for when thrifting are hats! In the colder months I find myself wanting to still accessorize my outfits and hats are a way to do so. Whether it be a beanie, bucket hat, trucker hat or faux fur hat, there are so many different styles to sift through at the thrift store. My favourite hat I have thrifted is a black faux fur hat with a circular brim that adds the perfect amount of warmth, as well as style that yet again, goes with everything in my closet.
